How stock control works in a shoe shop
In footwear a single style is a size run from 35 to 48, and what sells is always one specific size. Counting by style does not work here: the report says twelve pairs while the shelf holds twelve size 45s that nobody is buying.
In Refresh the style is created once and the sizes become its variants, each with its own barcode and its own stock level per shop. You can see straight away which sizes are missing from the middle of the run and which are sitting dead.
Size runs, stock and broken ranges
Towards the end of a season what is left of a style is the edges of the run — the smallest and the largest sizes. Refresh shows stock broken down by size, so the decision to reorder or discount is made on numbers rather than on a feeling.
With more than one shop, the missing size is often in the shop down the road. A transfer is recorded as a document with its history: who sent the pair, who received it, and when.
Receiving and stocktakes in a shoe shop
Receiving is checked size by size, not by counting boxes, so a difference against the delivery note is visible immediately. A stocktake is done by scanning, and Refresh shows shortages and mis-sorts for each size separately.
The result is closed with a stocktake document, so losses and surpluses stay in the history instead of being corrected by a back-dated edit.
