Software for grocery stores

A grocery shop sells items by the piece and items by weight side by side, and they cannot be counted the same way. In Refresh every product has its own unit — pieces, kilograms, litres — and stock is held in that unit. Receiving, write-offs and reports all use it, so half a kilo never turns into one piece.

The range changes fast, so bulk import from a spreadsheet and fast search by name or barcode matter more than tidy product cards. Stock across every location is visible online, so nobody has to phone the second shop to ask whether there is flour left.

Weighed goods only work when the codes in the software and the codes in the scales agree. Refresh prints labels for weighed goods and exports products to the scales so that the item code on the label matches the code in your books: the till reads that barcode and fills in the weight and the amount itself.

That removes the most common failure in a grocery shop — the scales printing one code while the software believes it means a different product, after which the evening totals stop reconciling.

Dairy, bread and prepared food live by dates, not by stock levels. Refresh tracks batches with expiry dates and warns about batches that are about to expire — before they have to be thrown away.

Waste does not have to quietly vanish from stock: a write-off is a document with a reason, so losses appear in the reports as their own line instead of dissolving into an unexplained shortage.

A cash shift is opened and closed in the software: how much cash was there at the start, how much went through the till, how much was removed. An X report shows the state of the shift at any moment; a Z report closes the day.

If the internet drops — and in a grocery shop it drops at the worst possible moment — the till keeps taking cash and syncs the sales once the connection is back.
